Marcel Joseph Arcand

March 27, 1944 – March 9, 2018

Marcel battled cancer for 9 months in the comfort of his own home and quietly passed away the day after he arrived at the Norwood hospice.  He was tirelessly cared for throughout the duration of his illness by his loving wife Carole, with support from their children Jackie and Shawn and Jackie’s partner John. Words cannot convey how thankful we are for the help, support, and visits we received from numerous family and friends over the past year. It meant the world to Marcel and perked him up during a long period when he struggled to find energy. It also helped us care for him during those times when we found ourselves in over our heads.

Marcel is also survived by his sisters, Raymonde and Rachelle (Wayne); his brothers, Aime and Lionel (Geri); step family, Lea (Ed), Pauline, Genny (Bernie), Dolores (George), Laura (John), Denis (Janice); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marcel was predeceased by his father, Damase; mother, Marie-Ange; step-father, Pete; brother, Aurele; sister, Claudette; brothers, Gilbert and Alberic; and Pauline’s husband, Ken.

The family would like to thank the home care staff with Alberta Health Services in Morinville for their invaluable care and support that allowed Marcel to remain at home for the duration of his illness, the staff and volunteers at the Cross Cancer Institute for their compassionate treatment, and the staff at the Capital Care Norwood Hospice for the comfort they provided, if only for a short time. Many thanks to Dr. Botha and staff; for always accommodating Marcel whenever he needed to come in to the office.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cross Cancer Institute, the Capital Care Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Harley Morgan Stanwood

December 13, 1926 – February 20, 2018

STANWOOD, Harley M. passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on February 20, 2018.  He’ll be forever loved and remembered by his children, Garnet, Kevin and June (Rick Buchanan) Sawatzky; grandson, Kyle Ross; brother, Art Sawatsky; sister, Mary Wiebe; sister-in-law, Vel Sawatzky; and numerous nephews and nieces, particularly Eileen Finlay and Marion Unger.

It’s impossible to sum up any life in a few short words, Dad had 91 years. Dad, one of 7 children, was born in Aberdeen, SK on December 13, 1926 to the late Henry H. and Mary (née Elias) Sawatzky.  Having grown up on a farm, Dad enjoyed the machinery side of things and had a career in farm implement sales and management.  He lived a simple life, was kind, had a good sense of humour, enjoyed sports, music and reading, had a green thumb, was an awesome soup maker, willingly shared his pearls of wisdom and was fiercely independent.

The family would like to thank the staff at Youville for the care they provided.

Following his wishes, there will be no funeral; cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sturgeon Memorial Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations to your local Canadian Cancer Society chapter would be appreciated.
