In Loving Memory

August 28, 1950 – October 14, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gilberte “Gilly” Wyatt, who passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the age of 73 years, surrounded by her family.

Gilly is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Bart Wyatt along with their children, Nicole Cooney (Tim), Vicky Gilowski (Fred), Bart Wyatt (Krista), and Danielle Figura (Craig). Her grandchildren, Paul, Marie (Vito), Brendan, Aaron, Kyle, Brayden, Molly, Jack, and Joseph will fondly remember her thoughtfulness, handmade gifts, and delicious cookies.

Gilly was a remarkable woman, known for her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Her enduring empathy and compassion for others were exemplified through her longstanding dedication to the Bon Accord and Gibbons Food Bank.

While Gilly may no longer be with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will forever remain.

On friday, September 15, 2023 our beloved Robert “Ted” Joseph Underhill unexpectedly passed away at home in Morinville, Alberta at the age of 75 years.

Ted will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Mary (nee Johnston) Underhill; children, Angela (Mo) Turgeon and Anthony (Celeste) Underhill; grandchildren, Megan (Kyle), Jenna, Abby, Jacob, Sarah, Austin, Gaylene (Nick), Taylor and Brittany; great grandchildren, Isaac, Jessie and Maisie; siblings, Bev, Reg, Gerry, Jeff and their families; as well as many other family members and friends.

Ted was predeceased by his parents, Earl “Glenn” and Evelyn (nee Williton) Underhill and brother, Richard Underhill.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Daniel Justin Blyschuk announce his passing on Friday, July 21, 2023 at the age of 34 years. Daniel was born September 28, 1988 in Edmonton, Alberta to Deborah and Peter Blyschuk the youngest of three children. He was the beloved brother of Nicholas and Natasha.

Left to mourn his passing and forever remember him are his mother, Deborah Blyschuk (Terry MacNeil); brother, Nicholas (Janine) Blyschuk; brother in-law, Brad Clements; nephews, Ethan, Ryder, Liam, Corbins and Nixon; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Daniel was predeceased by his father, Peter Blyschuk; sister, Natasha Clements; paternal grandparents, Peter Blyschuk Sr. And Joanne Blyschuk; maternal grandparents, Raymond Morris And Elaine Morris.

July 17, 1953 – August 14, 2023

Edwina Darlene Oliver (nee Sparks-Garnett) passed away in Edmonton, Alberta on Monday, August 14, 2023 after a hard fought battle with COPD and congestive heart failure. Edwina was born July 17, 1953 in Saint John, New Brunswick to Ivy Sparks and Edwin Garnett.

When Edwina was in high school, she met the love of her life Ken Oliver. The two of them were inseparable and were married on June 30, 1973. Edwina worked as an EMT before having her two children, Tim and Tracy. In the 1980s Ken and Edwina decided to answer the call to move out west, the first of many generations of her family to leave the east coast. Edwina and her family settled in Calgary, Alberta and resided there for nearly 40 years before recently moving to Bon Accord, Alberta. Edwina spent most of her working career in Calgary as a medical administrative assistant most recently working with EFW Radiology until her retirement.

Edwina lit up any room she entered. Her smile and laughter were contagious and her sense of humour was unmatched. She touched the lives of everyone she met, including the amazing team of doctors and nurses at the U of A Hospital in Alberta who worked to help her during her final days.

Edwina is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ken; her children, Tim (Carlyn) and Tracy (Jordon); her grandchildren, Alex, Mei, Matteo, Avery, Emily, Madison, Aiden and Norah; her sister-in-law, Jane (Joe); brother-in-law, Ron (Danielle); niece, Madeline; brother-in-law Greg; as well as countless relatives she had the privilege of reconnecting with later in her life.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ivy Sparks and Edwin Garnett; her father-in-law, Murray Oliver; mother-in-law, Jean Oliver and her brother-in-law, Ralph.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Enns, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the age of 58 years, after a courageous 3 and a half year long battle with cancer.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Charmaine, with whom he shared the past 28 years, married for the last 22 of those years. Doug is survived by his mother, Deanna Enns, and predeceased by his father, Arnie Enns.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jonelle Steele (Craig), Brandon (Emily), Ashley, and Alyssa; his grandchildren, Sadie, Charlie, and Jude; his sister, Cyndi Jenkins (Bill); nieces, great niece and great nephews, extended family, friends, and his beloved cat, Lucy.

Doug was a member of the RCMP for 21 years and retired last year in St. Albert, Alberta. Being a police officer was what he loved and excelled at. He was well known as a great mentor, with a wisdom and a calmness that inspired those he worked with. He always took pride in being there for his members. While working in Ponoka, AB, Doug wrote the police blotter for the local newspaper that garnered many fans and rave reviews for its hilarious depictions of the escapades of Ponoka RCMP.

Doug will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor, which endeared him to everyone and persevered even to his last days. He loved Star Wars, Monty Python, spaghetti westerns, sport motorcycle racing, and camo shorts.

Special thanks to Dr. Sawyer, the nurses, and staff at the Cross Cancer Institute; and Dr. Aronyk and his staff at the Gamma Knife Unit at the U of A Hospital. Special thanks also to our family doctor, Dr. Newnham, and the nurses, chaplain, and staff at Foyer Lacombe in St. Albert, for the exceptional support and care given to Doug and our family.

On June 17, 2023, Paul “Bear” was taken from us suddenly. We are left in shock to mourn the loss of his kind soul, but will celebrate the wonderful and amazing way he touched our lives.

He leaves behind his wife, Vivian Sinnett; sons, Justin (Charlene Saunders) Sinnett and Julian Sinnett; step children, Chantelle (Adam) Cowley and Jarid (Samantha) Wulff; grandchildren, Amaya Cowley, Brynlee Cowley, Wyatt Cowley, Quinn Wulff and Oaklynn Wulff; brother, Brent Sinnett; uncle, Hazen (Bonnie) Wheeler; as well as many dear friends whom he held as close as family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bliss Sinnett and June (nee Wheeler) Sinnett, and his grandmother, Vera Wheeler, all whom he greatly missed.

Paul was born in Minto, New Brunswick, where he was affectionately known as Bear. It was there that his love for sports, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, motorcycles, and socializing, began. His passions grew further as he took fondly to traveling, photography, and ice cream. His greatest love of all, though, was for his family. Bear was fiercely loyal and loving to his family, and that extended into the friendships he made throughout the country. He attended Moncton Community College, and eventually pursued a career in surveying. Bear’s career ultimately brought him to Alberta, where he became well-respected in the construction industry. Bear’s sense of humor was one-of-a kind, and his laugh resounds forever in our memory. In life, he took every chance to go full-throttle. Bear’s family and friends grieve his loss deeply, and hold ever so tightly to the rich memories he made sure to create with them.

Marie Antoinette Verbeek passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at the age of 72 years old. She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Ernie; son, Earl; daughter, Bobbi (Justin); step-son, Jeremy; step-daughter, Amanda (Matt); grandchildren, Brady, Robert, Nikita, William, Megan, Emerson, and Oliver; sisters, Beatrice, Bernice, Rose; brother, Tony; and brother-in-law, Neil; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and
in-laws that loved her dearly.

She was predeceased by her parents, Antoine and Marie-Anne Grenier; brother, Arthur; and sister, Cecile.

Marie was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, cousin, and friend. She was happiest when spending time with her family, whether that was playing cards, sharing a meal, making cookies with her grandkids, or spending time in the backyard. She was often tending her plants and flowers, in the garden, or in the kitchen baking, cooking or canning (and then sharing her many baked and canned goods with those around her). She loved bringing joy to people through food. She also found a lot of joy and comfort in being a part of her church community and praying for those around her. Her laughter, hugs, and many goodies will be dearly missed.

The family would like to express their thanks to St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital for all the love and care given to Marie during her time spent there.

Edith courageously battled cancer for the last year of her life, she passed on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the age of 88 years.

Edith is survived by her children, Becky Marble (Kent), Laurie Fuller (Dennis), Crystal Rudolph (Glenn), Jim Schiele, Sandy Schiele, Garth Schiele (Marilyn) and their families consisting of 19 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; one sister, Eva Brown; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Edith lived in Gibbons for 40 years, she was multi-talented and could play most instruments by ear, from the accordion to the organ, she loved music and dancing. She loved to craft, sew and garden in her younger years. She won most beautiful yard one year. Edith drove everything from, school bus, gravel truck to taxi cab, she was also a driving instructor.

Edith will be lovingly remembered, may she rest in peace.
