Monique Lorraine Pillay (née Berglund)

In loving memory of
Monique Lorraine Pillay (née Berglund)
July 25, 1971 – July 25, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Monique Lorraine Pillay (née Berglund) after a courageous battle with cancer. She chose medical assistance in dying on Friday, July 25, 2025.

She is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Maria.

Monique was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend. First and foremost, a mom. Monique’s passion and devotion was centred around her daughter; her eyes would sparkle at Maria’s gentle heart, cleverness, and cheeky sense of humour.

Monique’s own gentle heart and witty sense of humour was always shared to bring people comfort and light up the room.

Monique’s generosity and brilliance shone through; as an accountant, she helped countless people, with a special passion for assisting small businesses and humanitarian organizations. She held a beautiful space of non-judgment and confidence with people in their most vulnerable spaces. This depth of love and kindness was also held for her fur family of many adored dogs over the years.

She lived life on her own terms, with a deeply philanthropic and entrepreneurial spirit. Her courage, perseverance, and resilience gave her a unique compassion for the underdog, and she generously shared her time and resources championing the causes closest to her heart.

She faced her terminal diagnosis with a determination, fighting to stay for her daughter until her daughter’s untimely passing on July 4, 2025. She then faced her death with reverence and navigated the difficult decision with grace and deep thoughtfulness for those around her.

Monique’s kindness, laughter, perceptiveness, and beautiful heart will be missed beyond measure.
