Ernest “Ernie” Keast

September 7, 1961 – July 7, 2025

It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Ernest Wilson Lloyd Keast on July 7, 2025, at the age of 63.

Ernie was born on September 7, 1961 in Cold Lake, Alberta, the youngest child of Ernest Keast and Ann Jackson and brother to Mona, Andrea and Tracy.

Ernie was a Red Seal welder with an Inspectors Certificate. He was known for his work ethic in his field of expertise and was very dependable. Ernie’s interests were all kinds of sports, especially hockey (go Oilers!). He loved the outdoors, which included, hunting, fishing and gardening. Dore Lake was always a special place for him. He lived on a beautiful acreage just outside of Legal, Alberta.

In later years, Ernie embraced his native heritage. He created the most amazing dreamcatchers, which he sold across North America. He graciously gifted his beautiful work of art to family as well.

Ernie was an avid animal lover, especially his 3 dogs (his “kids”). Anywhere he went, they were right by his side.

Ernie will always be remembered for his caring heart and compassionate soul, especially with his mom. His little crooked smile and giggle will not be forgotten.

Ernie is predeceased by his father, Ernest Keast (August 1961) and his mother, Ann Jackson (February 2024).

He will be lovingly remembered by his family: Dad, Red (Ruth) Haughn; his daughter, Amanda Rimes (Matthew) and grandson, William; son, Andrew Haughn; older sister, Mona Fairless (Greg) and nephew, Johnathan; younger sister, Andrea Haughn and nieces, Brittany (Nathan), Katherine (Norm), and Jacy (Chris); younger sister, Tracy Ruszkowski (Todd) and nephews, Vincent (Desiree), and Landon (Alannah); great nieces and nephews, Liam, Theo, Grace, Ozzie, Emry, Maddie, Kyan, Jake, Isaac, Tobias, Viktor, Ila, Natalia, Aria; as well as numerous extended family, loyal friends and beloved pets.

Ernie will be missed dearly.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Remembering
Donald Edward Cameron
June 5,1946-July 10,2025

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Edward Cameron, on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the age of 79 years. Don was a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

The passion he had for his cars new and old warmed his heart. He always took time to soak in nature from blooming canola fields to the wildlife within. Don was able to travel to many different places for work and for pleasure. Rocky Mountain House became the place he called home. Don named Crescent Falls as one of his favorite places to visit. He also had a beautiful energy for running 5 kms per day. This joy was shared with the Terry Fox Run every year since the early 1990’s.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Blaine Clare Gardiner

Born November 6, 1947 – Died July 15, 2025

Predeceased by: Mother, Katherine Sutherland; Father, Maurice Gardiner; Stepfather, Charles Sutherland; Brother, Lyle Gardiner; Sister, Adelle Groff; Fur family: Smokee and Lady.

Lovingly survived by: Wife, Anna Gardiner; Daughters, Wanda (Chris), Yvonne (Jim), and Kathryn (Dan); Grandchildren, Brandon, Tasia (Josh), Victor and Jacob, Liam and Brianna; Brothers, Lionel (Lois) and Glen (Francis); Sister, Louise; and many many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Blaine was born to Katherine and Maurice Gardiner in Clair, Saskatchewan, and had five siblings—Lyle (deceased), Lionel and Louise, Adelle, and Glen. After his dad’s passing in 1961, his mother married Charlie Sutherland. They all grew up in the Wadena/ Clair area; from there they all went off to build their own lives.

Blaine moved to Regina and worked as a long-haul trucker. He met Beverley Ealey; they were married in 1972 and had three daughters – Wanda, Yvonne, and Kathryn. After divorcing, he moved to Edmonton, where he met Anna Wasyleshko, and they married on December 21, 1985.

Blaine worked for many years at CFB Edmonton as a civilian driver until a fall resulted in him being on long-term disability in 1995.

Blaine loved family and friends and went out of his way to visit and keep in touch with everyone. In May of 1988, he and Anna bought an acreage that they both cherished and loved, where he remained until his recent passing.

An avid outdoors-man, he would attend yearly hunting and fishing trips, and everyone looked forward to all the BBQs that resulted. Anna and Blaine had a love of camping; they would load up their RV and travel all over British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. This gave them the opportunity to attend family and friends events or just stop in for a visit.

He loved his grand-kids so much—all kids, for that matter! He would have them out to ski/toboggan on his ski hill, camp out in the “Chalet,” and for BBQs and bonfires. He even brought the Scouts out to partake in these winter activities. He taught his grand-kids how to cut the grass on the riding lawn mower and woodworking as well as hunting and fishing.

He was very detailed in recalling historical family information and did his best to make sure all his children and grandchildren were also aware of the history.

We will all miss his special “top-ups” on our coffee while we were camping, sitting around with our tequila shots, or a good glass of wine. His favourite, unfortunately, was Royal Red, but that was being refined over the years. He always made sure we had a beer or wine in our hands.

He was an exceptional storyteller and jokester because he had so many experiences that no one ever heard the same story twice. As he was telling the stories, you were so glued to the information, as he had such a wonderful talent in the delivery that you would be sore for days from laughing so hard.

He loved to cook and would make sure you had a full stomach. If you left hungry, that would be “your own damn fault.” He would always be willing to share a recipe or try a new one and then tweak it to make it his own.

Blaine was talented at bartering and was always trading, as he could see the value in everything. One of those trades resulted in his beloved moped with a butterfly on a spring. He would teach the kids and grandkids to ride it, and once you rode it, you would officially become part of his Butterfly gang. He even let his own mother ride it, but that did not go as expected. She fell and broke her arm, but she was proud to say she saved the butterfly.

While at home he developed a love for birds and wildlife. He would feed all of them from his back deck and developed a connection with each and every one of them. They seemed to know who he was and would watch for him where they would have conversations. We think they even understood one another! He had his beloved cats as well that meant the world to him – Smokee and then Lady.

Blaine lived his life with energy and a fullness that he was proud of, and his family cherished every moment with him. He will be missed by everyone that came in contact with him, as his personality, charm, and character made him a memorable person, and everyone enjoyed him.

At Blaine’s request there will not be a service. There will be a private inurnment held at a later date for only close family.

Maria Lorraine Mackenzie

In loving memory of
Maria Lorraine Mackenzie
December 23, 2008 – July 4, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Lorraine Mackenzie on Friday, July 4, 2025 at the age of 16 years. After facing unimaginable hardships with resilience, she ended her life, and has now found peace.

Her life and memory is profoundly cherished by her beloved mother, Monique Pillay. She will be lovingly remembered by a host of loving family, close friends, especially Will and Sam, and her father, Gordon Mackenzie (Dawn).

Maria was a deeply empathetic, kind and creative person with the most incredible sense of humour and delighted in using subtle, quick-witted observations to make someone laugh. She always had a loving heart, understanding and deepest acceptance for all people. Most recently she discovered an interest in learning ASL, and it quickly proved to come easily to her and it connected to her determination to make other feels seen and welcomed.

As a gifted musician, with a special enthusiasm for grunge rock and punk, she could often be found playing one of her many guitars. She enjoyed exploring a multitude of musicians, and often asked for thoughts and recommendations, happily shared her take on them, though most were compared to, and clearly surpassed by her favourite band – Nirvana.

Her infatuation with gaming and puzzles included a fascination with locks and a brilliance at assembling her many Star Wars Collector edition Lego.

She would often enthusiastically share her eclectic interests with her friends and family. She loved to get lost in books, and was drawn to a wide range of genres that she seemed to be able to finish faster than could possibly be expected, and she’d be already choosing her next two or three. She also enjoyed thrifting and finding the most unique of items and imagining a story behind them, or unique purpose that awaited.

Maria’s gentle beautiful heart, bubbling laughter, clever mind and generous spirit will be deeply missed.

In leu of flowers, please donate to Simple Plan Foundation or Egale Canada.

In honor of Maria’s life, we asked that anyone in need of support, please reach out to: Crisis helpline 9-8-8 or Kids Help Phone 1-800-668-6868.
Help is available and you are not alone.

Peggy Elizabeth Patterson (née Lewthwaite)

December 24, 1945 – June 22, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peggy Patterson (née Lewthwaite) on June 22, 2025, at the age of 79 years.

Peggy will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 58 years, Bob; her daughter, Jenny, and her son, Aaron (Theresa & Aven); as well as her stepbrothers, Cliffe and Craig; numerous nieces and nephews; her extended family; and her dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gilfrid and Clara; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Royal; her stepmother, Helen; and her in-laws, Bill and Dorothy.

A beautiful smile. A kind heart. A daughter, sister, wife, mom, aunt, and friend like no other.

Peggy was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, and spent much of her childhood on the family farm west of Sintaluta. Summers were spent on the farm and winters in town or in Victoria. After high school, she moved to Saskatoon to study Home Economics at the University of Saskatchewan and later earned a diploma in Business. Soon after, she met Bob at the roller skating rink at Katepwa Lake. They married in 1967 and relocated to Edmonton in 1969 where they started a life and family together.

Peggy lived with quiet strength, creativity, independence, curiosity, and a generous spirit — always ready with a quick-witted remark or playful tease. She loved being a wife and mom, and we are forever grateful for her unwavering love and care. Her legacy lives on in us.

Together, Bob and Peggy built a home on the acreage in 1980. She found great joy in raising her family there, where she also tended to her beautiful flowers and gardens, enjoyed long walks, and horseback rides through the river valley.

Peggy had an adventurous spirit – from summer camping, fishing and beach trips to exploring over 15 countries across five continents — cruising through Europe, crossing the Panama Canal, road-tripping across Australia, and riding a motorbike through the countryside of Vietnam. In retirement, she and Bob escaped the Alberta winters to the sunshine and warmth of Arizona where they enjoyed happy hours and hiked the beautiful desert trails — including Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon and the red rocks of Sedona.

Her quilts and handicrafts — stitched with love — are lasting hugs for those lucky enough to hold them.

She cherished her friendships — from curling nights to golf trips to quilting groups and everything in between — so many great memories were made.

Peggy — Mom — lived a full and beautiful life. She leaves behind cherished quilts, blooming flowers, joyful memories, and hearts forever touched by her love.

She will be remembered by her family at a private gathering at a later date.

Aurore Marieange Kerekes (nee Bussiere)

1929 – 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aurore, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt …… on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 95 years.

At her age of 95, She was able to reach the title of Great Grandmother to 25 little blessings. Her legacy will be endless, as we expect those blessing to continue as well as layer into great great, great … blessings!!!

She was a mother to 6: Diane Helmers, Carolyn Mageau (Marcel), Darlene Lafond (Harvey), Corrie Kerekes (Rita Bilodeau), Brian Kerekes (Crystal Hodgson), and Ken Kerekes.

A grandmother to 20, Diane’s: Shane Mageau, Rochelle Haws, and Nadine Winkler | Carolyn’s: Nicolas Mageau, Lucas Mageau, and Colette Hayes | Darlene’s: Christopher Lafond, Dominique Lafond, Patrick Lafond, and Danielle Brochu | Corrie’s: Jessica Kerekes, and Gary Kerekes |Brian’s; Belinda, Tara, Ashley, Travis, Tristan, Joshua, and Emma | Ken’s: Karisa Kerekes.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Carolyn Mageau (1955-2017); mother, Leauna Marie (nee Poirier) Bussiere (1907-1995); father, Jean Baptiste Bussiere (1900-1982); her 2 sisters, Doris Bussiere (1944-1954), and Lillian Gaboury (1931-2016); brother, Robert Bussiere (1925-2008); 1 nephew, Terry Phaneuf (1958-2024); brothers-in-law, Ed Phaneuf (1933-2007), Raymond Gaboury (1930-2008), and Bernard Godin (1937-2024 ); 2 sisters-in-law, Margaret Bussiere (1928-1981), and Helen Bussiere (1913-2005)… in final, apologize to you, MOM, if we have missed someone that was important to you!

Born at home near Vonda, Saskatchewan… moved to Alberta in the 1950’s, to the final place she called home Morinville, Alberta.

She was a cook, a baker, a gardener, a pet whisperer. From her special hamburger patty recipe to the endless tarts, donuts and cakes she made when we were young. TOO many adventures to list..except we need to mention her need to speed and her ability to talk a “cop” out of tickets. She enjoyed travelling Canada and the United States with family, and on her own. Did not hesitate to communicate her feelings on anything from how the co-traveller’s kept their shared accommodation to the strangers on coffee flavor and dress attire. We loved and worried as to what was going to be said next. Unconditional love was given and received.

In the ending years, she so enjoyed, family activities that could accommodate her mobility and sight restrictions; from going to afternoon garage parties at her daughter, Diane’s home in Sherwood Park. Visiting with her son Corrie & daughter-in-law, Rita, at their family farm. Or doing a trip to see her son Brian’s and daughter-in-law, Crystal, to their home in Sylvan Lake and endlessly pet their dog. Doing weekly country drives with Darlene and son-in-law, Harvey. To having suppers out with son, Ken.

Rest now and forever know we miss you and wait for the day we can talk with you again.

Dale Chris Elias Ziefflie

August 23, 1950 – May 28, 2025

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025 the world lost a loving and cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Dale Chris Elias Ziefflie at the age of 74 years.

Born August 23, 1950 in Melfort, Saskatchewan to parents Chris and Ester Ziefflie, Dale grew up in Melfort where he went to school and would eventually meet the woman who would become his wife of 50 years, Marjorie Anne Flodell. In 1973 with big dreams for their future, Dale and Marjorie packed up their worldly possessions and ventured off to Edmonton to start a new chapter, where they eventually married in July of 1975. In March of 1978 their family grew with the birth of their first child which was followed by a move in 1980 to Redwater, Alberta where Dale and his family settled down for good. He also began his 35 year career as a pipeline supervisor with Texaco (Imperial Oil) this year before their last child was born in January of 1981.

During the early years in Redwater while their children were young, Dale could be found coaching his son’s hockey and baseball teams, working on cars and fixing up golf carts to supply the Redwater golf course. He also spent a big majority of this time traveling across many provinces for his children’s hockey, ringette, baseball, softball and dance for almost two decades.

He loved being outside, especially when the sun was shining so he could work on his tan, never a shirt to be seen. Camping, fishing, hunting, boating, sledding, golfing, hockey, baseball, gardening or continually working on & fixing up his prized antique car were some of his favourite pastimes. In his downtime he also enjoyed watching old western movies, especially anything featuring Clint Eastwood. Always wanting to stay busy, later in life Dale taught himself an incredible amount of knowledge surrounding computers and technology, which he put to use rebuilding towers and laptops while also helping others fix their computer issues.

Dale was also a total foodie at heart. He was the family chef and thoroughly enjoyed creating his own recipes, trying new ones he came across in his travels, and sharing them with anyone who asked. He especially shone when it came to making cinnamon buns or his famous Papa’s pizza.

Dale loved his family and friends fiercely. Interactions with those he loved and cared for was what he cherished the most in life. He had a wonderful sense of humour and could be a real jokester. You definitely knew he liked you if he teased you and he always enjoyed a good gab session filled with lots of laughs and good humour.

One of the things Dale most looked forward to, in these last years especially, was the bi-weekly visits from his oldest son Rodney when he was home for days off. The strong relationship they had mended and worked towards over the years was so very special to him.

Dale considered himself so blessed to be close to his four grandchildren and he spent as much quality time as he could with them. He would travel far and wide across the province to watch their ringette, hockey and dance competitions and his eyes would light up with pure joy while he witnessed their talents. Some of the most magical memories he created with his grandchildren was while he and Marj hosted at the Long Lake Provincial campground for many summer seasons, where they would stay for weeks so he could take them out boating, swimming, tubing fishing, bike riding and, most importantly, for their daily ice cream trips.

Prior to his retirement and continuing for decades to follow, Dale and Marj caught the travel bug, determined to enjoy as much of the world as possible. Together they experienced multiple cruises and vacations to a vast number of countries all across the globe. One of the most special trips was a weeklong sun-filled family vacation in 2018 to Cancun, Mexico with so many memories made that we all treasure to this day.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marjorie; his children, Rodney, Bobbi, and Kirk; his grandchildren, Samantha, Alexander, Harper, and Harlow; his siblings, Darlene, Doreen, and Daniel; along with numerous extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Chris and Ester Ziefflie.

His family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to everyone that lent him & Marj a hand from time to time over the years, especially one of his very best friends, Richard Jacob. Thank you so very much for everything you have done and continue to do for his family.

In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place.
