Cyril Patrick Pittman

November 4, 1941 – April 23, 2016
             (74 years)

Cyril passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2016, surrounded by his family and friends.  Beloved husband of Anne for 47 years; cherished father of Scott (Darcey) and Ryan (Leihan); loving poppy of Hayden (13), Emma (12), Corey (11), Oliver (7), Samantha (5) and Crosby (2).  Survived by his sister, Ethel (the late Neil Robinson); brothers: Dermott (Betty), Russell (the late Heidi Murray) and Patrick (Ina).  Predeceased by his parents Cyril and Lorraine (nee Lake); sisters: Mary, Dorothy and Lorraine; and brothers: Gordon (Jenny), James, Thomas, Brian, Kevin (Betty), Aubrey (Mary) and Eugene.

Born on November 4, 1941, in Placentia, Newfoundland, Cyril grew up in Jerseyside.  It wasn’t long before his sense of adventure sent him off on his nomadic journey.  Labrador City, James Bay, British Columbia and a stint on the Great Lake Boats shaped his early years.  After marrying Anne in December 1969 (“the best thing that ever happened to me”) his gypsy lifestyle accelerated.  Ontario saw them start a family.  First was Scott in 1971 (Ottawa) and Ryan followed in 1974 (Kingston).  But, alas, their time in Ontario was brief.  Edmonton (1976-1980), Newfoundland (1980-1982), Edmonton (1982-1983) and Nova Scotia (1983-1988) all followed.  In 1988, he ended his nomadic lifestyle and stayed in Edmonton until his passing.  A proud and dedicated union man, Cyril was especially proud of his membership in Local 720 (Ironworkers) and kept abreast of union issues and the activities of his union brothers.

Cyril cared deeply for his family and friends and was not afraid to show it.  Loyal and dependable, there was nothing “Cat” wouldn’t do for those he cared for.  An avid storyteller, Cyril was known for his humour and quick wit, and the stories and adventures he told were worthy of a Hollywood movie.  He will be deeply missed.
