With heavy hearts we announce the passing of John William Szumski “Shroomie” on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at the age of 64 years. John was born July 7, 1962 in Radway, Alberta.

John is lovingly remembered by his son, Peter (Addison); his former spouse, Joanna Szumski; his loving sister, Stephanie Striegler; his nephews, Richard (Amanda), Dwayne (Candace), and Lee (Cherie); and his cherished great niece and nephews, Devon, Dylon, Zachary, Gabriella, Skyler, and Jaxon.

He was predeceased by his loving father, Peter Szumski; mother, Mary Petzoldt; and his loving brother-in-law, Neil Striegler. As well as his best friends, Mike Diakur and Duane Rehaluk of Gibbons, Alberta in a tragic accident with John on July 9, 2026.

John is cherished by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.

John had a passion for trucking all over the country. John ran his own hot shot company.

His spare time was spent camping, fishing, having big campfires, fixing vehicles, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

John will be remembered for his vibrant love of life, his unwavering willingness to help others and his remarkable gift for long conversation. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, leaving an impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, warmth and generous spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
