December 20, 1946 ~ March 21, 2024

Lawrence Roy Hrycun, beloved father, husband, and brother, and friend to so many, passed away peacefully after a long battle with prostate cancer on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the age of 77 at Redwater Health Centre.
He was born in the Radway Hospital on December 20, 1946, the ninth and final child in the family. His childhood on the homestead in the Newbrook Area instilled a lifelong commitment to family and a strong work ethic. In 1966, he found his passion for carpentry while attending school at NAIT, becoming a journeyman carpenter, and spent much of his life meticulously working on construction projects. Lawrence also spent 25 years of his career in real estate until 1996 when he returned to carpentry.
Lawrence and Terraleen “Terry” first met through co-workers in 1982, were married by August of 1983 and have been inseparable since then. They built a life full of love with their family of three sons and freely gave each other independence. They were committed to their community and spent their time golfing, curling, and participating in many other community events through the years.

An avid sports enthusiast, Lawrence’s passion for games was unparalleled, including playing hockey with his three boys on the community rink, which he maintained and helped build. His love of cars was obvious to everyone by the pristine condition of every vehicle he owned. And he could be found by any dessert table, with an unmatched sweet tooth.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Terraleen; his three sons Michael (Tricia Kushniruk), Ryan and Warren; two sisters Helen (George) Chahley and Michaelina Hrycun (George Emsland); two sisters-in-law Rosie (Walter) Hrycun and Emily (Paul) Hrycun; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Cathrena (nee Lotka) Hrycun; his siblings Mike (Olga) Hrycun, Walter Hrycun, Annie (Metro) Zetaruk, Olga (Ben) Domshy, Victor Hrycun, and Paul Hrycun.

Thank you to all the staff at the Redwater Health Centre for their kindness and empathy.

Lawrence’s memory will be cherished, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
