MOTHER, Grandmother, Golfer.

With great sorrow we announce that on Friday, July 9, 2021 at the age of 67 years with her much-loved husband and children by her side, Janet Brouse passed away. Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Darryl; loving children, Amy, Christine (Jesse), James (Mandy) and Lisa (Shaun); and eight adoring grandchildren, Myles, Emme, Rhett, Kylie, Karson, Cole, Shelby and Tristan. She will be deeply missed by her four brothers, two sisters, and their spouses as well as lifelong best friend Kay Lewis. Also mourning this loss are thirty-five nieces and nephews, with each one having had a special relationship with their much beloved Auntie.

Janet was predeceased by her parents, John and Marjorie (nee Fleming) Morris and her dear sister in-law, Joan Morris.

Janet will always be remembered as an exceptional mother, wife, grandmother and homemaker. She will also be remembered as a wonderful sister, a kind and caring Auntie, loyal friend, and loving caregiver to her mother who during her later years lived with Janet, Darryl and their family. Due to her kindness, generosity, honesty and loving nature Janet had no enemies and a great many friends.

She will surely live on in their and all our hearts forever.

October 21, 1935 ~ June 21, 2021

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Roy James Ottawa on Monday, June 21, 2021 at the age of 85 years, he was born on October 21, 1935 in Smoky Lake, Alberta.

Roy was taken to the hospital on June 9^th as his health was failing, the doctors and nurses worked miracles and he became much better very quickly. There was hope he would return to the lodge, however he took a sudden turn for the worse. He became very tired and shortly thereafter he passed. It is a sad and heartbreaking time when you lose such a special person who touched so many lives in one way or another.

Roy is survived by his sister, Grace of Smoky Lake as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy was predeceased by his wife, Jeanie who he dearly loved and cherished, they were always together; his loving parents, John and Mary (nee Skoreyko) Ottawa; and sister, Glady’s Gontowiuk.

Roy was blessed to have his church family who are going to miss him dearly. He was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He attended church faithfully until his failing health prevented him from going.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the George McDougall – Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre. Who cared for him so warmly and tenderly, always making sure he had what he needed.

As per Roy’s wishes a small service with only his immediate family and church family will be held.

November 7, 1948 ~ June 20, 2021

Honey, Dad, Papa. Many people never get their life stories written. We are blessed to have yours permanently written on our hearts. It is with great sorrow that we must say goodbye, for now, as you join your parents, your nephew and your brother moving on from this physical world after a mere 72 years. Thank you for sharing your love of rusty old cars, grand adventures and, of course, flying through the open skies in one of your many airplanes. Our halls will forever echo with the laughter of the caring, passionate, funny, and knowledgeable man we all loved.

Celebration of Dad’s Life

April 10, 1958 ~ June 19, 2021

It is with great sadness that on June 19, 2021, Ron Pysmeny of Redwater area passed away at the age of 63 years after a brave battle with cancer.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Diane; daughter, Robyn; son, Scott; and his dogs Rex, Woody, Suki and Kitty Boo. Predeceased by his father, John and mother, Josephine.

Thank you to the fantastic staff at the Cross Cancer Institute, Redwater Health Centre, Dr Gee and all the great friends who supported Ron through this battle and more.

Ron will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father and a great friend. He loved adventure and travelled the world, meeting his wife in the Cook Islands, scuba diving, motorcycling with Harry, fishing and camping. Ron would do anything to
help his friends, a dedicated hardworking farmer from childhood with his beloved Grandfather Paul. Hang Loose!

On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, Terry Louise MacLeod (nee Roddick) passed away after her brief battle with cancer with her family by her side.

Terry grew up in Eureka, Nova Scotia, with her parents, Betty and Raymond Roddick, and her seven other siblings, Betty Ann (Robert) of West River Station, NS, Earl (Mary) of Culls Harbour, Nfld, Margie (Wayne) of New Glasgow, NS, Ellen (Jay) of Frasers Mountain, NS, June (John) of Thorburn, NS, her little brother Dougie (Susan) of Lorne, NS, and her niece who was like a little sister Bonnie (Ken) of Morinville, Alberta.

Terry was married to Art “Artie” MacLeod (of Saltsprings, NS) for almost 42 years. They went to school together in West Pictou, Pictou County, Nova Scotia and started dating after they moved out west to Alberta for work. Terry was a sassy, smart, determined woman, in the best way possible, which made her work for many years as a house mom at Oakhill Boys Ranch outside of Bon Accord, Alberta, perfect for her. She loved to cook, garden, woodwork, sew, dance, and grandparent.

Terry would like to remind everyone that this is not goodbye. Terry is now with her predeceased daughter, Crystal; her Momma and Father; her Sissy, Betty Ann; and her dog, Buddy.

She is leaving behind many loved ones already mentioned as well as her daughter, Jennifer (Nathan & Isla); all of her wonderful in-laws on the MacLeod side of the family; too many nieces and nephews to name; and her many, many friends in Bon Accord, Nova Scotia and Florida.

We would like to thank the many amazing nurses and doctors who cared for her so compassionately over the last few months.

With immense sadness Deanne, Dennis, Nadene and Daniel announce the passing of their beloved father. Don was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan he later lived in Vancouver, Kamloops, and Fredericton, before following his daughter Deanne to Edmonton. He was known for his kind, gentle and generous spirit. Don was everyone’s Grampa, “the Jerky Man”, the man with all the tricks, a fisherman and minister.

He will be dearly missed by 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Roie and son in-law, Walter Cook.

Johanna was born in Erp, Noord Brabant, the Netherlands on April 8, 1925. She lived through WWII and shortly thereafter met her future husband, Harry. They were married at the historic St. Servasius Catholic Church in Erp on August 11, 1948. As times were very hard after the war, they embarked on their journey to make a new life in Canada and settled in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Johanna dedicated the majority of her life to making a loving home for her husband and eight children. She enjoyed sewing, baking, singing while she worked, and having tea with a few close friends.

Johanna is survived by all of her children, Connie Henn, Ted (Helga) Van Asseldonk, Harry (Judy)Van Asseldonk, Tina (Art) Ratcliffe, Adrian Van Asseldonk, Jane (Don) McNamara, Teresa (Darrell) Seibel, and Pat (Fred Ostrow) Van Asseldonk; as well as 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; as well as two of her sisters who reside in the Netherlands, Mien van dan Tillaart and Jean van den Biggelaar.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Harry Van Asseldonk; her parents, Theodorus and Martina (nee Welten) van den Acker, one brother and 5 sisters.

Johanna will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all of her family.

February 23, 1973 ~ April 22, 2021

Claire Louise Service, age 48 years born 23^rd of February 1973 passed away April 22, 2021 after her battle with cancer.

Claire was born in Rotherham, England and moved to Edmonton, Alberta September 2^nd, 1980. She met Everett in 1989 and they were married August 3^rd, 2002.

She will forever be remembered by her husband, Everett; children, Emma (Justin), Miquela (Scott), Lyam (Samantha); her four grandchildren; parents, Janet and Vincent; her brother, Gary; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and cousin, Judith Anne Christie (nee Whittaker). After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Judy succumbed to the disease with Lloyd, her husband of 53 years, by her side. During her final months, she was a pillar of strength and always had a smile while enduring her pain.

Judy was born and raised in Bon Accord and as a young girl she excelled at sports and academics . She met and married Lloyd and soon they had two children, Jason and Kerri. Shortly thereafter, she secured a job as administrative assistant with the Sturgeon School Division at Gibbons School where she would remain a strong force for 38 years, until her retirement. Although Judy and Lloyd raised their own two children, she also mentored and guided countless other local children, who are now adults in the Gibbons area and still, to this day, share stories of ‘Mrs Christie’ and loved running into her out and about town. Judy and Lloyd enjoyed their retirement, spending winters in Florida with Jason, Kelley and their two grandsons, Jd and Jaxon, savoring all of their sports games and being their biggest fans. They also loved travelling, golfing and enjoying dinner-table visits with friends and family any chance they got. Judy’s favourite pastime was spending time with her 3 grandchildren – Hunter, Jd and Jax, beaming with pride when she saw them, sharing stories of them or creating their favourite recipes with them and cooking for them any chance she got.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Lloyd; her son, Jason (Kelley) of Jacksonville, Florida; her daughter, Kerri (Dennis) Rogers of Edmonton Alberta; her most prized, beloved souls, her grandchildren, Hunter (Kerri) of Edmonton and grandsons, J.D and Jaxon (Jason and Kelley) of Jacksonville Florida; her brother, Don Whittaker of Richmond BC; and sister, Lynn (Ned) Mills of Fort Saskatchewan Ab; as well, she leaves behind sisters in -laws and brothers in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Judy was predeceased by her father, Bert Whittaker and mother, Kate Whittaker (nee McCrimmon).

October 19, 1948 – March 23,2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Maine on Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Gordon was born October 19, 1948 in Edmonton, Alberta to Myrtle and Roy Maine. He was the first of seven children.

Gordon was a gentle and kind person who made friends easily. He enjoyed family get togethers, car shows, singing to the Lord, and most recently a love of Gospel music. He loved to travel and shared his experiences through photography. Gordon enjoyed watching sports (he could tell you sports stats -both current and from years before). He was an Edmonton Cerebral Palsy Association committee member and enjoyed outings and meetings with his fellow committee members. Gordon was a dedicated member of Beulah Alliance Church – attending services, Christmas productions, and enjoying the learning and friendships made during numerous Bible Studies. He loved spending time during the summer at Camp Nakamun and was Camp Counsellor there for several summers. In his school years, Gordon enjoyed the track team and continued to walk or run to raise funds for many charities. Throughout Gordon’s life, the challenges of having Cerebral Palsy, did not stop him from doing the things he loved to do. He accepted his limitations and tried to make the best of things. Gordon completed a Diploma in Accounting from NAIT and also a Bachelor of Religious Education Degree from the Canadian Bible Institute (CBI) in Regina in 1988. He was an eager and committed student and valuable employee in the many jobs he worked at.

Gordon leaves to mourn his siblings, Ron Maine (Margaret), Trevor Maine (Chris), Marilyn Tomlinson (Bill), Don Maine, Colleen Malanchen (Dale) and Sharon Weller (Dale). Gordon was a devoted Godfather, and a much loved Uncle to 13 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews. He touched the lives of many friends, aunts and uncles, cousins, and anyone who spent time with him.

Gordon was predeceased by his Mother in 1997 and Father in 2009.

Gordon will be missed beyond measure by his family and the friends that he has left behind. Though he is gone, he will never be forgotten. though we grieve as a family, we anticipate the day we will be reunited.
