It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father, David William Thomas Andrews on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 in Edmonton, Alberta. David was born April 11, 1945 in England to William and Irene Andrews.

David will sadly be missed and forever lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; his sons, David (Tracy) and James (Reesa); his grandchildren, Taija, Bryce, Breanne (Tyler), Theodore and Zach; siblings, Harvey (Lois), Wendy, and Gary (Sharon); as well as numerous extended family and friends.

David was predeceased by his parents, Irene Rose and William (Bill) Francis; and sister, Joan.

Celebration of Life

The immediate family will be holding a celebration of life at a later date.

It is with great sadness that the family of Michel Barabash announce his passing on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the age of 95 years.

Michel is survived by one sister in-law, one brother in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Michel was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Barabash (nee Trenchie); parents, Andrew and Anna Barabash; brothers, Walter and John; and sister, Maria.

The family would like to thank the staff at Miller Crossing for their compassion and care provided to Michel during his time with them.

December 21, 1929 ~ March 8, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Therese Marie Lavoie on Tuesday, March 8th, 2022 at the age of 92 years.

Therese was born in Lafond, Alberta on December 21, 1929. She was the 7th child of Joseph and Marie Lafrance’s family of 11. She loved being on the farm, she enjoyed helping her mother washing clothes, gardening and sewing. One of her fondest memories growing up was helping her older sister Yvette bake large batches of bread.

At the age of 20 she decided to travel to Edmonton to visit her sister Ida. During her stay, Ida mentioned that the Grey Nuns at the General Hospital were looking for a housekeeper for their private quarters. With Ida’s referral mom was hired as their private housekeeper. It was there that she met our father Xavier Lavoie, he was known as “X the orderly”. After a brief courtship they were married on October 26,1949 in St. Paul, AB. Their life was busy raising 12 children, 9 sons and 3 daughters. The family has grown to include 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Once their children were raised, they spent several years volunteering at the Catholic Renewal Centre in downtown Edmonton where they met many wonderful people. They filled their time attending prayer breakfasts, seminars and retreats; it was a huge part of their lives until Dad’s health declined. Mom’s focus and dedication turned to taking care of Dad. There isn’t any doubt in our minds that she made all the difference in the quality and longevity of his life. Our father rallied all his life through sickness, sadly Dad passed away with mom at his side, on July 29, 2007.

Mom was a natural caregiver, she went above and beyond to help any of her extended family members that came into the city. Helping others gave her great pleasure, yet she never expected anything in return. She never wanted to impose or be a burden. Raising such a large family with Dad’s health issues meant she had to learn to drive, at a time when very few women drove in the city. Anyone that knew her, knew she loved to drive, she knew every nook and cranny of this city.

As she reflected on her life she shared; “The lord blessed me with a large family and it did wonders for me, I see that I was destined to be a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.”

Mom, we will see your reflection and hear your voice echo in the things you left behind, in the memories that will touch us when we least expect them, in the stories you shared, in the family traits you passed down and in the love that will keep you close to our hearts forever…we love love you and we will miss you….

Therese leaves to mourn 9 children, Andre (Tina), Paul (DR), Maria (Lorrie), Lucie (Bruce), Francois (Mile), Bernard, Dominique, Angele (Pat), and Antoine; 22 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren; daughter in-law, Myra; her brothers, Robert Lafrance and Albert (Renee) Lafrance; sisters, Annette Blanchette and Denise Joly; sister-in-laws, Agnes McDonald and Marie McDonald; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Xavier Lavoie; sons, Jean Louis Lavoie, Alphonse Lavoie and Arthur Lavoie; her parents, Joseph and Marie Lafrance; brothers, Leo-Paul Lafrance, Luke Lafrance and Henri Lafrance; sisters; Gertrude Tremblay, Yvette Tremblay, Sr. Ida Lafrance.

Special thanks are extended to the staff at Kipnes for their kindness, care and compassion.

Dan was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Bernadette Montpetit; brother, John; sister, Lorraine; grandson, Brian Dubois; and granddaughter in-law, Kathleen Proulx.

It is with great sadness the family of Linda Gay Lukan (nee Howerton) announce her passing on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the age of 68 years.

Linda was born in Manning, Alberta to William and Darlyne (nee Hodgson) Howerton, Linda grew up together with her siblings, Wendy, Cody, Dale, Wes, Lea Ann, and Guy. The family moved to Pine Point in 1970, it was there that Linda met her husband Gerry Lukan. They enjoyed an active lifestyle and were involved in many community organizations in Pine Point, they also enjoyed dirt biking, camping and visiting friends and family. Tragically, Gerry was killed in a workplace accident in 1984.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Brian (Deanna) and Lana (Scott); her grandchildren, Kaylee, Matthew and Brandon; her siblings, Dale (Raymond), Wes (Cathy) and Lea Ann; as well as other family and friends.

Linda is predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerry; her parents, Bill and Darlyne; sister Wendy; and her brothers, Cody and Guy.

1936 ~ 2022

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather Diedrich Unrau on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Extendicare Eaux Claires in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 85 years. He was born September 26, 1936 in De Salaberry, Manitoba to John and Caroline (nee Bansen) Unrau.

Deed leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Lorna; children, Wayne (Christine), Leslie (Sheryl) and Shannon (Mark); 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Helen; brothers, Henry (Helen) and Nick (Marge); sister-in-law, Mary (Ed); as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Deed was a pipefitter for over 56 years in the Local Union 488 and he retired in 2009. In his retirement, Deed and Lorna enjoyed travelling to places like Nashville, the Caribbean, Reno, Vegas, Great Falls Montana, Strathmore, Winnipeg and to the Peace Country. Deed enjoyed country music, woodworking and relaxing on the patio with his dog Mojo. He was a very generous person who had a unique sense of humour. He was loved and will be missed by all his family and friends.

Diedrich “Deed” was predeceased by his father, John, his mother, Caroline and several brothers and sisters.

November 13, 1951 ~ December 30, 2021

It is with great sadness the family of John Rudy St. Nicolaas Jr, of Gibbons, Alberta announce his passing on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the age of 70 years.

After several months of declining health, John was freed from his pain to join those who went before him.

John was born on November 13, 1951 in Tofield, Alberta but spent most of his formidable years in Gibbons, Alberta. On a plot of land nestled between his family members, John raised his children, built a business and developed many strong and meaningful relationships with those who were around him. He was a fair and just man who spent his days pulling wrenches and teaching lessons (“Always carry a screwdriver in your glovebox”) to all who wanted to learn. He was a talented mechanic and welder and gracefully passed his wisdom and knowledge on to many who spent time with him.

He is survived by his mother, Gail St. Nicolaas; siblings, Gerry Babbage and Roy St. Nicolaas (Tracy); partner, Betty Womacks; children, Shannon St. Nicolaas (Doug), Chuck St. Nicolaas (Angie), Amanda Savard (Marc) and Chad St. Nicolaas; grandchildren, Kaitlyn St.Nicolaas-Semeniuk, Tegan Germsheid, Tynan Germsheid, Ava Miller-St. Nicolaas, Shelley Savard, AJ Savard and Hailey St. Nicolaas; great grandchild, Juno St. Nicolaas; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

John was preceded in death by his father, John St. Nicolaas Sr. and his nephew, Matthew St. Nicolaas.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Patrick Campion announce that he went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the age of 71 years after a short battle with cancer.

Survived by his devoted wife, Carol Campion; he was a loving father to Janine Saurette (Phil), Dawn Magnusson (Tim), Kim McQueen (Brian), Derek McComb (Carrie) and Keren Crossland (Corie); grandfather to Alice Saurette, Isla Saurette, Steven McQueen, Kayla Alcock (Jared), Riley McComb (Mystie), Thessaly Brown (David), Will Sammon, Nicholas McComb (Darby), Jessica Wiebe (Eric) and Matthew Clarke; great grandfather to Aubrey, Carson, Joleigh, Jaxon, Oaklynn and Aiden; also survived by his siblings Gerald Campion (Linda), Carol Fabick, and Valerie Scheck (Glen), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Predeceased by his parents, George Campion, Laura and Archie Williams and his sister, Barb Symesko (Reg).

Anyone that encountered Patrick would tell you of his larger than life personality, his immense love for the Lord, his undying love for his family and friends and of course, his insatiable love for all sports and especially the Calgary Flames. He was such a giving person and the love flowed out of him like sunshine lighting the world around him. He truly wanted to bless each and every person that he came into contact with. He was so grateful for the little things that most people take for granted. A phone call, a visit, a smile ~ that’s all it took to truly make him shine. He taught us how to love without judging, bless without worry, accept others as they are and to give without expecting anything in return. We may have had to say goodbye but his infectious smile, his laugh and his big heart will remain with us always and he will be sadly missed by all.
