Bertha was born in Bon Accord, Alberta the youngest child of a large farm family. She learned to work hard at an early age and was much loved by her older brothers and sister. After completing her high school she went to work at the general store where she met her husband Daniel Montpetit, who had stopped to buy a pack of gum. They married in July, 1952. They followed the oil rigs all around the province of Alberta and northern B.C. 8 years later they bought the grocery store in Legal and began a shopkeeper’s life full of love and laughter, working together in the store and fishing and camping with the family. They retired and built a home in Legal. In later years they moved to St. Albert, where they made many new friends. Mom was sharp as a tack and continued to play cards, embroider, do petit point, bake many cookies, and welcome all visitors with happiness.
In keeping with mom’s wishes she has been cremated and a family service will be held at a later date.
