In Loving Memory of
Bruce Francis Maetche
October 27, 1961 – October 17, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce Francis Maetche on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the age of 64 years, just ten days shy of his 65th birthday.
Bruce was born on October 27, 1961, in Hanna, Alberta. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Robert “Bob” and Francis Maetche.
Bruce grew up in a generation when life was a little simpler. There were no cell phones, no constant check-ins and no shortage of adventures. Kids left the house in the morning, spent their days exploring with friends, and somehow, despite having no way to reach them, their parents always seemed to know exactly what they were up to. It was a childhood filled with freedom, friendships and experiences that would help shape the man Bruce became.
From a young age, Bruce’s parents instilled in him the importance of hard work, responsibility, and lending a hand wherever one was needed. Whether it was cutting grass, cleaning, painting, or tackling whatever jobs that came along, Bruce learned that hard work wasn’t something to shy away from- it was simply a part of life. Those values stayed with him throughout his years and became the foundation of a remarkable work ethic that so many came to admire, and he passed onto his children, a lasting part of his legacy.
Bruce explored several jobs as a young man, before discovering what would become his lifelong career by establishing and operating his own business building grain bins and agricultural structures. Over the decades, Bruce earned a reputation for his craftsmanship, dedication, and ability to figure out just about anything. He was the kind of man who took pride in doing a job properly, never afraid of a challenge and always willing to put in the effort to get things done.
In a new chapter, Bruce worked alongside his son, Matthew, for 11 years. Bringing together generations of experience, knowledge and a shared appreciation for building something with their own two hands.
Of course, Bruce’s life was about far more than work. One of the most memorable chapters of His life began when Bruce and his good friend Troy walked into a travel agency where a young woman named Karen was working. Having just finished another grain bin season, the two were eager to book a trip to Jamaica, and naturally, they wanted to leave right away. Unfortunately for them, there wasn’t much available on such short notice. Never one to be easily discouraged, Bruce made himself right at home, settling into a chair, leaning back, and putting his feet up on a desk while he and Troy gave Karen a hard time about finding them a trip. What started as a travel booking turned into something much more meaningful. About a week later, Bruce and Karen went on their first date, beginning a love story that would last nearly 34 years. Together, Bruce and Karen built a life filled with family, memories, laughter, and the everyday adventures that comes with sharing a lifetime together.
Bruce was content when he had something to tinker with. Whether he was spending time in his shop, working on his beloved Mustangs, repairing a tool that most people would have given up on, or bringing one of Karen’s creative visions to life. Bruce always seemed to have a project on the go. His hands were rarely idle, and his mind was always working on the next idea.
Those who knew Bruce will remember a man who was an “A1, old-fashioned gentleman” and truly full of life. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a genuine kindness, and a personality that made people feel welcome. He was sociable, generous with his time, and always willing to lend a hand to someone who needed it. He was also a little stubborn, although those who knew him best would probably say that was simply part of his charm.
Bruce leaves behind his loving wife, Karen; his children, Michael (Diana), Matthew (Karisa), and Ashley; his cherished granddaughter, Maisie; his brothers, Brian (Kris) and Brad (Jean) Maetche; along with his nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives he touched along the way.
While his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, his memory will live on through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, the things he built, and the values he passed down.
