It is with heavy hearts the family of Mina Anne Doerkson (nee Welter) announce her passing on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the age of 82 years.
Mina was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta on December 9, 1941 to Carl and Exerie Welter. She lived in Sexsmith, Alberta with her parents and sisters until she met Douglas Doerkson whom she married on March 18, 1961. She experienced her new married life living in the bush below a forestry tower for 2 years. They moved to Edmonton and had five children. In July 1973 the family moved to a farm north of Gibbons, Alberta which continues to be the family home. Mina had a busy, full life. Not only did she have five children to oversee, she planted, maintained and harvested a large garden, milked a cow, fed and butchered chickens, all in addition to tending to the needs of her family.
Mina was a strong believer in her catholic faith. She was involved with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gibbons. Shortly after moving to the area, the parish priest heard that Mina played the piano and asked her to play music for the masses. She continued
to provide music ministry for 45 years. She was a committed volunteer in the church community. She provided music for marriages and funerals. She helped out in bake sales, rummage sales, potlucks, and cleaning of the church. and was always available if an extra pair of hands were needed. She gave her time and talents selflessly.
Mina is survived by her five children, Marilyn Doerkson, Margo Doerkson, Terry Doerkson, Marvin Doerkson and Blaine Doerkson, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Carol Hayduk (Welter).
Mina was predeceased by her husband of 43 years Douglas Doerkson, her parents Carl and Exerie (nee Menard) Welter, and her sister Phyllis Johnson (nee Welter).
