August 5, 1944 ~ May 9, 2022

It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to a loving Husband, Father, Gido, Great Gido, Uncle and Friend – Steve Chimko.

Steve was born on August 5, 1944 and passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 9, 2022. Steve will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 57 ½ years, Cathy; his sons, Howard (Marie) and Shayne (Brandy); his daughter, Shauna; his grandchildren, Darrel (Kayla), Dean (Jordana), Rae-Lynn (Mitch), RJ (Katelyn), Makayla (Chris), Brandon (Jess), Hailey (Colten), Shay and Hayden. Steve also leaves behind 4 great granddaughters, Lily, Mya, Naomi, and Andi. He is also survived by one brother, Walter (Sharon).

Steve was predeceased by his parents, Metro and Nellie; brother, Ernie (Lil); sister, Marie Anne (Ron); as well as Shauna’s partner Colin.

Steve took great pride in caring for his abundant garden and looking after his many animals while he lived on the acreage. He was always his happiest at home on the farm. Steve couldn’t have been more proud or excited when grandchildren arrived. The title of Gido was something he couldn’t have been more excited to have. Steve spent his long career in roofing which took him through various provinces. It was on one of these work trips where he met the love of his life, Cathy. He also volunteered on the Gibbons Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed being a part of the community and made friends wherever he went. Steve enjoyed the simple things in life, like spending time with his wife, family and friends. He also enjoyed Haying in the 30’s, fishing, wiener roasts, and going on wagon rides with all of the kids. He also enjoyed going to the Meat Draw at the Fort Saskatchewan Legion every Friday night. This was something he looked forward to each week and he usually cleaned house with his winnings. Steve loved playing cards or Farkle, having beers and shooting the shit.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Fort Saskatchewan Hospital, as well as the amazing staff at Foyer Lacombe Covenant Care in St. Albert.
