Robert “Bob” Michael Martiniuk

December 3, 1955 – December 28, 2024

Through the care and compassion of MAID Bob passed away peacefully with family by his side at the age of 69 years.

Bob is survived by his daughters Chantelle (Ryan) and their children Oceana & Kingdon and Michelle (Rob) and their children Jaden & Maddox; brother Walter (Dini); sisters (Betty) Marlin, Shirley (Maurice) and Lillian (Ken); as well as many other extended family.

He was predeceased by his faithful pup Charli; wife Irene; parents Mike and Anne; and brother Steve.

Bob saw most of North America from behind the wheel of a big rig hauling freight, equipment, logs and in the oil patch. He travelled from the Pacific to the Atlantic and the Arctic to the Gulf of Mexico. He also worked at various construction jobs including the bridge spanning the MacKenzie River. He loved the outdoors and was happiest enjoying nature while camping, fishing and hunting.

The family thanks the doctors and nursing staff of Unit 18 at Sturgeon Community Hospital and MAID. Special thanks to nephews Lenny & Jared and good friend Morel as well as many others he made while out walking Charli at Paul Kane Park in Edmonton. We are grateful for the friendship and kindness you gave Bob and for checking in on him from time to time.

Cremation has taken place. As per Bob’s wishes his ashes will set sail in the summer.

Robert Henry Lemm

1942 – 2024

Robert Henry Lemm, a retired military pilot renowned for his sharp wit, unparalleled sarcasm, and love of adventure, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the age of 82 years. Born in Creston, British Columbia to Mary and William Lemm he called Penticton his home until he enlisted in the Canadian Air Force and lived in various parts of the country until settling in Sturgeon County in 1982.

Bob, as he was known by friends, family, and countless fellow service members, led a life filled with high-flying achievements, a few misadventures, and a lot of laughter. After retiring from a career as a military pilot, he found new ways to stay airborne—whether navigating the skies in his personal plane or simply steering conversations into bold, humorous and sometimes contentious territory. He had a rare gift of making anyone laugh, often with a well-timed quip or a perfectly delivered sarcastic remark. His trademark humor made him a beloved figure in both his military and civilian life.

Living on a farm filled Bob with a passion for collecting—and let’s be honest, borderline hoarding. This place has become a mechanical wonderland, filled with cars, engines, wrenches, and tools stacked in every corner. It’s not so much about organization as it is about rescuing old projects and the faint hope that one day, something might come in handy. The farm is a testament to the joy of fixing things that don’t need fixing and collecting “just in case”—even if that case never comes. If something of yours was borrowed, please let us know so we can ensure you get it and a few other items back.

Though Bob’s demeanour was legendary, it was his love for his family that defined him. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Poulin; two grown children Sonja Shank (Vincent) and David Lemm (Danielle); and five grandchildren, all of whom will carry his wit, humor, and legacy forward. Bob’s love for them was unwavering, and while he often joked that he had “seen it all,” nothing in life brought him more joy than watching the family grow and thrive.

A Memorial Service will be held in the spring where family, friends, and anyone who appreciated a good laugh (and a little sarcasm) will gather to celebrate his remarkable life.

Leslie Hary Meyer

December 24, 1939 ~ November 22, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie H. Meyer on November 22, 2024, in Athabasca, Alberta at the age of 84 years. Les was born on December 24, 1939, in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, to Samuel (Sam) Meyer and Hannah Helmer. He grew up with five brothers: Allen (Pat), Bruce, Cliff (Betty), Ernie (Sabrina), and Art (Linda).

While visiting his brother Cliff in Edmonton, Les met the love of his life, Carole Booher. They married on March 17, 1962, and celebrated 62 wonderful, happy years together. They bought a home in Jasper Place, where they raised their three children: Shauna Avitan (Ivan), Shane Meyer, and Lesly Meyer-Smith (Nelton).

Les enjoyed working as a Milkman and Supervisor for Silverwoods Dairies. He then worked for Old Dutch Foods (which his kids loved) and retired from there in 1989. The family spent many years camping at Lake Isle before buying their family cabin at Baptiste Lake, AB, where they later retired to.

They also enjoyed many cruises and vacations around the world. As Snowbirds, they spent the first two years exploring Western Mexico before settling in Quartzsite, Arizona, where they spent 30 wonderful winters. Les loved quading in the desert with his friends and was still doing so at 80. He was glad to have been retired more years than he worked.

Les was known for his wit, sense of humor, and big heart. If you needed a hand, he was always there. He was the greatest grandfather to his grandsons, Jordan Avitan and Ricardo Smith. Les also leaves behind nephews, nieces, brother and sisters-in-laws, and some really great long-time friends. Family and friends were very important to Les and he loved showing off his extensive photo collection of memories. Les was a sports enthusiast. He was an Edmonton Eskimos season ticket holder for many years in the ’70s and ’80s and a die-hard Edmonton Oilers fan.

Please remember his wishes to celebrate the wonderful life he lived. There will be no memorial service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
